Fighting the hair curling demon!

I don't know when it happened. One day after my first child was born, as I stood in front of the mirror yanking my curls into submission, it hit me.

Hey! My hair is curly now!

And I was not happy about it.

Now don't you curly-haired goddesses go writing me any nasty letters. I think curls are beautiful. On y'all, not on me.

I took an unofficial poll on Facebook last week and it seems as though I'm far from alone. Our hair gets curlier after we have kids. Why this happens is a mystery to me. But you can rest assured that I will be doing everything in my power to fight the hair curling demon that has taken up residence inside my head.

I will be sure to post pictures so you can laugh at me and feel folliclarly superior because I know you like that.

  1. Heather, you are a beauty!

I am not naturally curly haired, but come to think of it, yes, I think I've gotten a little curlier after having kids. And I do like it! I like the added body as my hair inevitably gets thinner . . . .

  2. Ooh, that is one mean look. My hair got curlier as I got older: no kids involved at all! But I like it. I especially like humid weather -- YES! you heard me. Humid weather give my hair body and makes it all wavy and thick. Otherwise it's too heavy to look very good unless I actually work at it.

YOU look great, as does Julia Roberts, and basically everyone else with curly hair except for me. I think it makes my face look fat. In reality it's probably my fat face that makes my face look fat! :-P

I know what you're saying! It's so much more convenient. It will make camping a lot easier. Ahh, camping...

Swish.. Swish.. I'm flaunting my stick straight tresses! You are gorgeous dahling! You have knockout eyes and killer eyebrows. Do you pluck those suckers? They are truly hubba hubba! I fight my hair demons by not washing it often enough and putting it in the eternal Mom ponytail:) Yuck!

Thanks you silly thing! I only pluck to avoid a massive monobrow. And a curly one at that! Your hair is beautiful, one can't help but notice.

My hair has waves. Waves that do not go in the right direction. I have to blow dry straight. I used to perm my hair--who didn't?

My hair used to be like that. Straight in some places, with irritating Bobby Brady waves in others. Ah, the perm days. Remember when a spiral perm was all the rage? I used to braid my hair and apply perm solution.

  10. MINE TOO!! My hair used to be bone straight and ever since having kids, it's curly!! I actually have to blow dry it now if I don't want to wear it curly. So wierd! But good to know it's something that happens to a lot of women after having kids.

This is probably a wierd thing to say but you have the most beautiful profile...such a cute little nose!!!

I hope you'll participate in the We Heart Art carnival I have going on right now on my blog! I'll have a Mr Linky up on Wed and Thurs for you to link your artwork! The prizes are fantastic...come check them out!

  11. Best brows in the U.S.A. methinks!

One rawrrr hot mama!! Seriously, you are beautiful!

My hair got darker after baby. Or maybe with time.

But I'm loving my Loreal 9A cool ash blonde roo-boosting mania. I think next time I may even go one shade lighter.

Harry Hamlin's ex Sheridan used to be on the 9A box, wonder why they replaced her?

Ha! So nice of you to say about my nose! It's been feeling quite bulbous these days.

I don't really have any art, but I'll try to give it a shot!

My hair is now incredibly dark with lots of gray. But I don't have the skin to go with dark, so it just looks aaaaaaawful. I tried to add some highlights last weekend (myself as I don't want to be apart from the kids long enough to go to a salon) and I ended up looking like a big orange lion. But that's okay!

YOU, on the other hand, are an ashy-rooted Goddess. I thought HH was with Lisa Rinna? He dumped Nicole Sheridan? I'm so sure. :-P

  16. Sure, I'm reading this many, many, MANY months after its original comment by date, but maybe it was time for a revival. My hair turned curly when I was 15. I found my first gray hair that year, too. Oh, and got the chicken pox. Turning 15 sucked for me! Anywho. Over the past 23 years (WOW that's a long time!) my hair has gotten worse. The curl has turned to an almost permanent frizz and, on a good day, I have an afro. Imagine that! So, I say, fight the curl! Now, where is that flat iron.

  17. What is the deal with that? I love curly hair, just not on me. I feel like it makes my fluffy face even fluffier.

I just tried twice to leave a comment on your Drew Barrymore blog post and got two 404 messages - not sure what I'm going wrong!

  18. I logged out and got the same error. I disabled OpenID and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for letting me know. No wonder no one has left me any comments [that's my story and I'm sticking to it]. ;)

  19. It worked! After all that trouble I'd like to have dropped something brilliant on your doorstep but... I've got nothing. ;)

My comments get all wonky too with this JS-Kit business. I want to try to get Comment Luv back in there, but I'll probably end up deleting the whole durn thing.
