Does Google AdSense Make Sense?

Do any of my fellow bloggers or webmasters find that you've been able to procure a respectable amount of cash flow using Google AdSense? By respectable I mean have any of you ever hit the $100 threshold required for payout?

I slapped some ads on this blog just under the header and last time I checked I saw one for "Father Day". Yes, that's "Father Day" and not "Father's Day". Is AdSense programmed to mirror the grammatical acuity of the blogger? If so, my prognosis is bleak.

I find myself wondering if AdSense serves a purpose beyond cluttering Happymaking, making me look estupido and thrusting Engrish text links in your gentle faces not like Andy Gibb thrust his camel toe at an unsuspecting public circa 1977.

First, that picture is so scarey! Second, I have made $0.00 with Google AdSense.

  2. You know I don't know. I thought the threshold was 10 bucks not 100.

I put it up right away and so far I have made .02 GAH. I really don't expect it to make me much money but I was hoping for 10 bucks before Gabe graduated high school. We can always use anything extra (who can't?).

I want it to be worth it, I think I'll let it go for 6 months and see what I've made in that time to see if it's really worth it.

  3. I forgot to mention, so far I haven't seen anything that is Engrish worthy. It gives ads based on what you talk about so maybe your post with the bad English triggered something. I see carseat and house ads a lot because that's all I'm yakking about lately.

Scary in a good way? I hear you. I don't know that a lot of people like to click on ads. Maybe I need more "in your face" ads.

I wonder if they changed it? When I first signed up years ago for Mommy Resources it was $100. I've made over $30, so maybe I should try to cash out! Pizza Hut, here we come! lol

You're being very rational. Why jump the gun? Give it a fair shake.

  7. How interesting. And infuriating! Adsense should bloody well pay YOU for hindering rather than helping!

So let me get this straight: if the ads Google puts up for you get clicked enough, or result in purchases of $100, then you get paid?

Wow, he was circumcised. Who knew?

Actually, last year within about 3 months I did reach my $100.00 threshold with adsense and got the money, Honey. But that was back on my old pre-Wordpress site when I was blogging almost all on songwriting, I'd have songwriting contest ads appear exclusively, and since I was luring in as many songwriters as I could, they seemed to be a clicking on the ads. So I cashed out on that last July and since then I believe I am now at about $90.00. So 11 months for $90.00. Not sure if that's above average, or what.

    $30.00! In what time period?

Jannie, I'm replying on your comment because that is one hellaciously big eye you have. How'd you manage that?

Sounds like you had a good thing going! You do now as well. Ah, to be at $99 for three months lol - I've been at $33 forever now. I got up there reasonably quick with an old Mommy Resources link site I had, but then I stopped updating and promoting the site and it dropped off.

I agree that these ads work best in very specific sites where the links will actually be of interest to the readers.

HUGE laugh at your big eye! It's big! It's beautiful! It's bold! It's the new black!

Hi Eva, it's complicated. For me anyway. I never really understood it myself. My brain just doesn't work well with figures. I think it involves click throughs - it's not like with Commission Junction where you get paid a percentage for referrals.
