Peanut Butter War: What is it good for?

My husband is a Skippy fan. I think Jif (or Jiffy as I affectionately refer to it) is peanuttier. I grew up with Jif. It's just not in the same league as that other stuff. Somebody told me that Skippy was made from mouse pee. Who wants to eat mouse pee? Do you want to eat mouse pee? Didn't think so. Neither of us will budge an inch. He, of course, is stubborn, bull-headed and just plain wrong. I, of course, am just plain right (obviously).

This weekend my husband has suddenly taken to feeding Joe Joe peanut butter toast in the morning. I'm suspicious of his motives.

Heather: "Did you give him Skippy?"

Dennis: "Yes. I'm trying to bend him to my ways."

Heather: "That's just sick."

On which side of the battle lines is your household?

  1. We, too, have Jif (my wife's preference) and Skippy (super chunk for me, please), although we've settled on one or the other when times are lean. Of course, we're both getting to the age when we really should be going with the Smart Balance.

  2. This was funny to read because I was a huge Jif fan and my husband loved Skippy peanut butter. He likes chunky and I like creamy. But then recently I discovered that Skippy makes a natural peanut butter so I gave that a try and the kids and I really like it. In the meantime, my husband has converted to using Jif. So we've switched it up a bit!!

  3. If it ain't Jif, it ain't peanut butter.

The real question is ... smooth or chunky?

  4. Helene, that is hilarious! Got to try that organic stuff. I tried the Trader Joe's brand and it had about an inch of oil on top & was hard underneath & you had to refrigerate it - hard as a rock!

I grew up chunky, but now I'm all about smooth sailing. Thankfully, Dennis likes smooth as well. Like a baby's bottom.

  6. Songrytr, you are so right about Smart Balance! I actually put peanut butter OVER butter. I'm awful. I love the taste of Smart Balance, but not the spreadability. GOod to know your wife has good taste. :)

  8. We only buy Jif. Except occasionally I pick up organic for Josh but as you say it is hard as a rock in the fridge.

  9. I'm spoiled. I eat everything I want, so we by 2 kinds of most things.

But we both agree on Heinz ketchup.

  10. There is no substitute for Heinz! Anything else is just water with a little tomato!

  11. I agree. Heinz is the tomato bomb!

Or are we talking about Jannie's pool boy Heinz?
