Unless any of you can give me a compelling reason not to, I've decided to bite the bullet and combine my blogs. The idea is to convert Happymaking (http://happy-making.blogspot.com) into my custom domain (http://heatherkephart.com).
My blog will still be called "Happymaking". It will simply live at a new address that bears my name. The posts that currently exist at Textual Medium will (better!) remain. From what I understand there will be a re-direct, and I can transfer my RSS feeds so the move should have little impact.
Is this a really bad idea? Please tell me if it is. I don't want to alienate my beloved readers, or screw up my feeds and followers. I just don't have the time to run two blogs right now. Thank you. :)
It can be tough maintaining one blog, let alone two. Just point me in the right direction and I will follow. 8-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about this but I think Andrea at Creative Junkie has gone through the process so she may be able to give you some advice on it.
ReplyDeleteI'll follow you no matter where you go...you can't get rid of me...LOL
I say go for it! Having your own domain is the way to go. There's always people willing to help you out on forums. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteAs Anne mentions, I couldn't keep up with more than blog -- so I am totally with you on the one-blog plan!!! especially since it's a personal blog. I know for some people they migght have maybe, a personal blog and another for say photography or some other specific field.
ReplyDeleteYes, your own named domain has zero downside, all upside, great branding.
And of course you know I'll keep coming back for YOU, whatever your blog may be.
Thank you Anne! That means a lot to me. And I'm not just blowing smoke up your wazoo.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I get smoke blown up there. It tends to tickle! :) I am loving how your blog is looking, by the way.

Thank you! I've been through about 30,000 different themes. Giving up for now. :-P
ReplyDeleteThank you Connie!~ xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Helene! Ditto! I figured it out! Found a great post about it that walked me through it step by step. Here it is in case anyone needs the 'fo.

Thanks so much for the input, Jannie Banannie! xo DITTO!
ReplyDeleteThis was exactly what I did too with my blogspot blog. I just dropped the "blogspot" from the URL and now it's working great.
ReplyDeleteSo are you happy you made the switch?
ps. Welcome to PG50!

Hi Rey Jr! I didn't know you could do that with Blogger. Good work. I moved mine over to Wordpress because I wanted more functionality, but it's been a bit of work because I'm no expert at these matters.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy that I made the switch. The only thing that's driving me nuts is that, although I changed the name of my blog everywhere to "Happymaking" it still says "Textual Medium" on my RSS Feed. Agh! I'll get it sorted out somehow.
PS Thanks!
Oh, and I've tried twice to comment on your top post, using Twitter and Guest, but it's said "Just a Moment" for-ev-ah now and I'm about to give up. :-P
ReplyDeleteHi Heather. Sounds to me like a wise move. I'm sure you won't be loosing any readers at all, and as a matter of fact, I think you will be gaining some:)
ReplyDeleteBTW, cool commenting system. Never saw like this one before. Took me a while to figure it out, lol

Hi DiTesco :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Actually I somehow screwed up and lost 60% of my RSS Feed Subscribers. Not sure how that happened. But I chose my name as a domain so it will always be applicable and I will never again have to move.
Thanks re: the commenting system. Sorry it took you a bit to figure it out, hope others aren't having trouble as well. I'm considering adding JS-Kit, but not sure if it will work with this them. Oh well, no way to find out but to try!
Again, good to see you.
HI Heather. No problem with the commenting system. Took time but not a lot really. If someone really wants to leave a meaningful comment then I'm sure they'll figure it out just like I did.
ReplyDeleteAs per the JS Kit, unless you are looking for something specific, I do not believe it is necessary for you to install it here. I have it because of certain limitations on my template, otherwise, I really do not see any point having it.

Wow, how kind of you to follow-up! Thank you! I used to have it at my Blogger blog pre-conversion, so I gave it another try. But the Comment Luv and Twitter plugins stopped working, and I had to wait forever for them to import my comments so I just said forget it. :P
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the subscribers. You'd get them back eventually. You write with great humor and you keep us guessing with the direction of your thoughts. Surely that's great formula for keeping a great stable of readers.
ReplyDeleteLove the Twitter ID integration here. ",)
