    1. I'm thinking after all of the stress of a 50,000 word novel a short story contest may be fun. I'll see how I feel come December 1. :)

My new mantra: I am a writer, I am a writer, I am a writer... rinse and repeat.

    2. I'm not a fan of Writersweekly and according to several of their members "I'm a crappy writer" among other things.

      Such as:

"This lady has some mental illness issues."

      "Ouuuuu~~really bad imagery~~ her & erotica. (GAG!!!!!!!!!) "

"Ok, here's a new genre started by her "Erotica for the Single Digit IQ's"

Anyhow, good luck with the contest if you decide to enter.

    3. When I was a student I always left things to the last minute and turned out some pretty good stuff, at least good enough to get me through. As an adult I steer away from anything that may cause undue stress and I reckon this is one of those occasions.

Good luck to whoever takes this on though. Hopefully you'll win Heather and I can leave a congratulatory comment on your post telling us of your success.

    4. You're kidding me? Where did they say that? In reviews or the forums? Is that why you started your own? If that's the case, no wonder.

Regardless of how somebody feels about our writing, I don't think it's ever appropriate to lampoon and attempt to publicly humiliate somebody like that. What a shame those poor, classless souls have internet access.

    5. I think you've got a good plan, Sire! We've got enough of the unplanned stress to contend with, eh?

Thanks for the encouragement! I haven't yet decided whether or not I'll be entering. I've never written a short story before. It might be fun, but we'll just have to see how busy things are around then. I wouldn't expect to win, but there's some fun in having a horse in the race.

    6. I was a member of their forum. At the same time I was being harassed by a couple who owned another writing community. That couple joined Writersweekly and it wasn't long before members of WW started to turn on me & take her side.

Before I knew it there was an entire thread on WW entitled "Worst experience reading an article" that was all about me.

I'll admit that back then my writing did need improvement. I was a poet who had just begun writing articles. Nonetheless, I believe as writers we should help one another. I agree with you that it is not very classy to publicly humiliate somebody.

What can you do? Life goes on and people will say and believe what they want about you.

    8. Unfortunately Rose many people have no class, no tact and no brains. If they had brains they wouldn't act the way they do. Actually, they probably do have brains, it's just that the brain cells that count are missing.

I write a bit of poetry and stuff, and I considered your invitation, but I'm of the age where I'm not willing to change or accept criticisms for certain things, and poetry is one of them. I spend a bit of time on my poems and put them out there for people to enjoy, or not. The main thing is that I enjoy doing them.

    9. Dear Heather,
Sounds like a good way to stick to a contest's deadline by entering with the fee first, and than finding out the topic thereafter. I like this idea a lot, as it encourages one to go further through the interest. I know that when I usually see a competition I am enthusiastic in entering I rarely enter as I know the topic face up and am left pondering over it, but this idea of entering, paying the fee, then finding out the topic and immediatetly creating a short story under 24hrs is a wonderful way to face up/ignite one's imaginative creativity.

    10. @Rose I didn't even realize there was a forum. I have been getting the newsletter for a few years now and I enjoy the information and articles, writing leads and such. At least you came out of it with a little perspective and didn't let them keep you from writing.
